My 7 Favorite Tools I Use as a Copywriter For Motherhood Brands

Why is copywriting important?

Ah, let me name the ways.

Ask yourself…

  • Do you need to communicate with your audience?

  • Do you need Google to notice you?

  • Do you want to gain more clients or customers?

Here’s the main way copywriting can help you:

Quality copy grows your business.

Are you looking to write copy yourself?

Are you looking to hire a copywriter?

Either way, you're lucky to be here.

I’m a copywriter, so I can tell you all about what copywriters do.

I’m going to start by sharing seven of my favorite tools that I use daily as a health and wellness copywriter.

Hemingway App

Do you ever wonder if your content is easy to read?

Well, it’s easy for me to read!

It might be easy for you to read, but almost anyone?

The Hemingway App will help your writing in the following ways:

  • analyze your content’s readability (should be 5th to 7th-grade reading level)

  • shows your use of passive voice

  • shows when sentences are hard or very hard to read

  • shows when you have simpler alternatives for sentences

Did you know that most content for your business should be at a 5th to 7th-grade reading level?

That way, almost anyone can read it.

That’s one step towards amazing, effective copy – simplicity!

PubMed

Need a place to find relevant information for your health and wellness content?

Pubmed is an online database with over 35 million citations for biomedical literature. I use this a lot as a health and wellness copywriter.

I find it most useful when I need research for:

  • a blog

  • website copy

  • email campaign

  • product description

Using PubMed's excellent, up-to-date information gives my copy an edge.

It’s free and super easy to use.

Grammarly

Do you struggle to keep your grammar on point?

Are you wondering if your writing sounds correct and clear?

Grammarly is another resource that helps my writing be more clear and concise.

Here’s how it can help you with writing:

  • Simple grammar checks

  • Wording

  • Clarity

  • Audience engagement

  • Use of Grammarly Chrome extension (take Grammarly anywhere)

You can use Grammarly for free or buy the premium version. I prefer the free version for copywriting purposes.

Google Docs

Still paying for Microsoft Word? You can stop now.

Google Docs can take its place.

Here's how it'll help you:

  • super user-friendly

  • compatible with writing websites

  • uses H1, H2 formatting

  • easy to collaborate with a team

  • share documents with anyone

  • easily organize work in folders

Talk about simple and easy!

I use Google Docs for any piece of copy I write.

Headline Analyzer

Isn’t writing a headline only a few words? It’s the easiest part, right?

Wrong!

Writing your headline is the most important part of writing a blog if that’s the type of copy you need to write.

Not only does it impact SEO, but also engages your audience. It’s the first thing they see.

Make it count!

That’s why I use Coschedule Headline Studio.

All you have to do is copy and paste your headline into the site and it will give you:

  • A headline score (shoot for 70 or higher)

  • character count

  • headline type

  • reading level

  • word balance

  • suggestions on word choice specific to your headline.

For me, this is a satisfying task to do after writing an entire blog, as the perfect cherry on top.

Ubersuggest

Did you know using the correct keywords in a piece of copy will greatly impact your SEO?

It’s helpful to have a variety of tools for keyword research and tracking.

First of all, what are keywords?

They are relevant words that you include throughout a piece of copy. They greatly impact SEO. Before writing a piece of copy, researching keywords is one of the first things I do. That way, I can organically put the keywords into my piece as I write.

One of the tools I use to consistently research keywords is Ubersuggest.

Neil Patel is the brains behind Ubersuggest, and let me tell you, he has it figured out!

He’s basically created a one-stop shop for SEO needs:

  • your keyword research

  • backlinks

  • a workspace to add your website and track SEO performance

  • constant suggestions to improve your SEO

I use it every time I create a piece of copy! It’s extremely helpful and an amazing resource.

You can use keyword research for free, but to get all the benefits of the site, you need to pay for it.

My Unique Perspective

Don’t forget this one! It’s could be THE most important resource!

YOUR perspective.

No one has a perspective like yours (or mine).

So, I put a high value on my unique perspective.

This impacts my writing every time I open the computer or pick up a pen.

My identity as a:

  • health and wellness copywriter

  • mother

  • wifey

  • coffee drinker

  • morning person

  • Idaho native

  • prior military spouse

  • The Office fanatic

  • friend

All impact my writing in some way, and that is powerful.

Don't underestimate your power.

Yes, we have wonderful tools at our fingertips.

Yes, they make us better business owners and writers.

Can they replace us?

No.

The most important tool I can give you is YOU.

Your own personal spice.

Your own flavor.

It’s amazing, and don’t forget it!

Where to find a copywriter?

Well, you’ve come to the right place.

  • Can you benefit from my perspective and experience?

  • Do you need someone to give your company a voice?

  • Are you in need of content for your health and wellness business?

I’d love to speak with you more about your business goals and types of content to make your business successful!

Grow your business, stress less, and save time by booking a time to speak with me here.
