4 Ways You’ll Need To Connect With Your Ideal Client
Are you wanting to connect more with ideal clients?
Are you on a mission to show clients you care about them?
If you want to do better in this area, I’ve written a few ways to help.
Ask yourself: Who is my ideal client?
Yes, that’s right, I said ideal client. Believe it or not, your client is not everyone.
What?
Yes, you read that right. Your ideal client is not everyone.
As I went to open my own business, I received the best piece of advice, and I’ll never forget it.
Here it is: If you think your ideal client is everyone, your client is no one.
Many businesses make the mistake of thinking their client is everyone. The truth is, they spend a lot of time attracting potential clients and customers that are not a good fit. Not only is this a waste of time, but it is also extremely unrealistic.
I encourage you to shift your mindset and think:
Saying “yes” to the right client is just as important as saying “no” to the wrong one.
You might be thinking:
What do you mean? I should be out there turning clients down? I need business!
This may sound bold, but yes, you shouldn’t be trying to attract anyone.
The truth is, NOT everyone:
wants your product or service.
needs your product or service.
can afford your product or service.
Obtaining quality clients takes time and organization, much like spring cleaning. You don’t get rid of everything right away, you go through a process and decide what stays and what goes₁.
Play the long game. It isn’t going to happen overnight.
Treat clients with care. They are the foundation of your business.
The cornerstone.
If you are building a house, you don’t forget to create a foundation. So, don’t forget to build the foundation of your business either.
Be Authentic
Clients want honesty.
Be open, authentic, and transparent. They are much more likely to trust your product or service if you are completely honest about it.
What do you have to gain from hiding anything?
If they are going to use your product or service, they deserve this courtesy.
Being your most authentic self will:
attract the perfect clients for your business
weed out who doesn’t need your product or service
rule out who can’t afford your product or service.
While being your authentic self, consider the power of storytelling.
Let me explain:
The missing link between you and a perfect client could be your shared interest in a hobby or lifestyle.
You never know– your passion for:
tennis
knitting
coffee drinking
The Office (that’s what she said)
whatever else
Could be your connection opportunity with an amazing client.
Don’t edit yourself.
I was reading a Forbes article that got me thinking about how to authentically craft your story. Ask yourself, what stories am I crafting? Are they authentically you, or are they “carefully curated lies?₃”
Believe me, people know you’ve made mistakes. Don’t pretend like you haven’t.
I promise, potential clients will see your transparency and they will trust you. They will likely listen and be open to your product or service.
Conduct Survey Research
Surveys are an extremely useful tool when connecting with clients. Have you ever thought about using them to show clients you care?
Surveys are one of the best ways to get to know your clients.
Questions you should be asking while writing surveys₁:
What do they buy?
What do they care about?
Where do they spend their time?
Who do they interact with?
What are their goals?
What are their pain points?
These questions will open your mind to your clients' day-in-day-out lives. The truth lies within the little details. Spending time on survey research keeps you well-informed on these small details.
Through survey research you will:
learn things about clients you haven’t thought of before
care for clients more
find more opportunities to serve them
Listen.
Ask.
Your clients will tell you what they need.
Care for Clients by Writing a Blog
Your business should have a blog!
Read over these quick statistics from IMPACT:
47% of buyers view 3 to 5 pieces of content before engaging with a sales representative₂.
Companies with blogs tend to get 67% more leads than those who don’t₂.
Marketers who prioritize blogging are 13x more likely to achieve a positive ROI on their efforts₂.
What does this mean?
Businesses with blogs gain more business.
Blogs, when written correctly and optimized, should contain helpful content. People like helpful information, and are more likely to share it with other people.
94% of people who share posts do so because they think it might be helpful to others₂.
Be the person who adds value. Be helpful. Use a blog to do it.
If you don’t have time to write a blog, consider hiring a copywriter, like me, to do it.
