5 Reasons Why Your Content Marketing Plan is Like Nap Time

Ever tried to put a baby down for a nap in the middle of the day?

The conditions need to be just right.

Unless you’re lucky and have a child that sleeps wherever, whenever.

Believe me, I know. I have one of each.

Well, however you put your baby to sleep…

There’s some type of routine and formula to it. It's not an exact science, but you know all the ingredients to make it work. And if it's done consistently, it works most of the time.

Do you put in the same thought and attention to detail when it comes to writing copy for your business?

If you don’t…

I’m about to tell you how a good content marketing plan is exactly like putting a baby down for a nap... and how viewing it this way will only help you!

Let’s dive into the reasons.

#1 - It’s All in the Details

When you put a baby down to sleep (if your baby is anything like my daughter)...

It’s all in the details.

Blackout curtains.

Sound machine blaring.

8 oz of warm milk…

Rocked to sleep…

The thermostat is set to 72 degrees…

Let me tell you, those babies are extra!

But it’s okay that they’re extra. Because they need the extra love, comfort, and care from you.

And so does your business content marketing plan!

Your business needs you to sweat the small details because the small details aren’t nothing.

They are everything

🚩So, here are a few red flags that show you may not be paying attention to the small details of content marketing…

  • You’re not posting a blog every week

  • You’re not sending out weekly emails

  • You haven’t settled on an email sequence for new subscribers

  • You don’t want to worry about SEO

  • You don’t include clear, concise CTA’s in your copy

If this sounds like you…

Stay with me and read on!

#2 - It Takes Extra Time

Putting a baby down to sleep takes extra time away from your routine. Babies usually need extra care and attention.

Writing for your business takes extra time too.

It’s as simple as that.

So, maybe you don’t have the time to devote to executing a detail-oriented content marketing plan. And that’s the hard truth.

Writing for your business is taking away from other important tasks you need to be doing.

Now… writing for your business can feel very much like your baby. You don’t want to put your baby into the care of just anyone…

You want someone you know you can trust with your...

  • Voice

  • Message

  • Vision

I know it's a lot to hand over.

For me, I need to really trust someone before they’re allowed to care for my baby. I’m sure you’re the same.

#3 - Success Won’t Happen Overnight

Usually, your baby isn't able to sleep through the night right away.

It takes time to settle into a routine and learn your baby’s temperament.

It’s the same with a content marketing plan. It takes a while to find a routine and system that works for you. Then, once you arrive at the right balance, you stick with it until it doesn’t. Then, you adjust from there.

Because businesses are just like babies. They grow and change continually.

So, content marketing success won’t happen overnight. It takes a steady, constant presence.

Dedication to the small details, extra time, and…consistency.

#4 - Consistency is Key

Yes, consistency is hard

With babies and your business.

Babies throw curve balls at you all the time.

And within your business, you have tasks pulling you in all directions. This makes it hard for you to sit down and figure out a content strategy to carry out.

Consistency may be difficult...

But the payoff is worth all the pain.

Consistency is truly the key to anything you are trying to accomplish.

(Seriously, your ultimate life hack)

Your consistent efforts will result in exponential growth over time.

So, my question is…

Do you have the patience?

I know I do. 💚

#5 - It Takes A Lot of Your Energy

Lastly…

After putting a baby down for a nap…

Do you feel tired? 😴

You and me both!

Putting in the work to get a particular result takes a lot of your energy.

Because believe me, you didn’t get your business to where it is by being lazy.

You are far from that.

But, you can’t deny that completing writing tasks for your business is draining to you.

The last thing you want to do is write a blog, email, or anything else you need written for your business.

So…

That’s Where I Come In…

Because when you take the time to nurse your baby, love your baby, rock your baby….

They learn and grow more and more…

Don’t you want your business to do the same thing? Creating consistent routines is hard.

Don’t get me wrong…
